In association with The Westfield Health British Transplant Games 2011 the LibLab was proud to record the song The Gift with Daniel O’Rourke’s band The Blackberries. It was the young band’s first visit to a recording studio and they did a great job. It wasn’t long before they were playing Custom House Square in Belfast!
Produced by Michael Sampson, Mixed and Mastered at MatscaN Music and recorded at the LibLab studio in a very quick, raw and very live session this EP is a very exciting sounding and energy fuelled effort from one of Belfast upcoming punk/hardcore outfits. 2010 has been a busy and exciting year! As well as appearing in 80 live performances MatscaN Music has completed quite a few tasty big projects. Some of the highlights are:
-The Wee Weirdies, officially together since February we’ve managed to write and record our 1st EP which we launched at the fabulous Empire Music Hall gig to 250 people along with our friends The Emerald Armada, we’ve played many other gigs, had a couple of radio appearances and launched our new website. The Wee Weirdies have been a great excercise at fully managing an artist, from project planning to recording, marketing, booking gigs and promotion.
-The Emerald Armada, MatscaN Music mixed and Mastered the Armada’s debut EP A Few Good Friends. You can listen to a couple of tracks off it here, but i recommend that you get in touch with the band to get yourself a copy!
-Rachel Austin, I performed on Rachel’s EP The Age Of Wisdom which sounds fantastic! You can listen to and purchase The Age of Wisdom here. All the recording has also been done for her follow up EP The Age Of Love and this should be out early 2011 so keep posted and join her mailing list cuz this will be a big year for Rachel!
-Emer O’Neil’s debut album 2 Pints of Guinness and a Taxi Fare Home was released in November. This is a really nice recording of a beautiful talent, Emer has a unique voice and playing style. -Thomas Duffy. At the Lib Lab myself and David Preston took care of project managing, arranging, producing, and finally performing on local singer songwriter Thomas Duffy’s Debut album Set Yourself Free. This album was finally mixed and mastered at MatscaN Music. Although this album will officially be released in early 2011 you can listen to snippets and purchase it at amazon.
-Here’s hoping for more adventure and excitement in 2011! It’s already off to a good start for MatscaN Music as work is underway mixing and mastering the forthcoming Scorpion Jack album, this record will be hot!
